Calling
One setting, on one card. The tab’s subtitle is Where new agent numbers are bought — it decides which area code you’re offered first the next time you give an agent a direct line.
Calling presence
Section titled “Calling presence”The city your agents should appear to call from. This pre-fills the area code when you assign a direct number to an agent on the Numbers tab — numbers are never purchased automatically.
Current: shows the city and state you picked, or the area code if we only have that, or Not set.
To change it, type in the box marked Search a city, state, or area code… and pick from the list that drops down. There’s no separate save — choosing a city saves it there and then, and Saving… appears beside Current: while it goes.
Under the box: Don’t see your city? Pick the nearest one in the same area code — they share local presence. The list is a fixed set of cities, so the nearest one sharing your area code gives you exactly the same phone number prefix.
What it actually does
Section titled “What it actually does”It fills in the area-code box for you when you buy an agent’s direct number under Numbers → Users. That’s all.
Specifically, it does not:
- buy any numbers on its own — every number is bought by an admin, deliberately, from the Numbers screens
- change any number you already own
- decide the caller ID on campaign calls. That’s Local presence on the campaign’s Outbound tab, which picks a number per lead from your outbound pool and ignores this setting entirely.
Set it before you start handing out direct lines
Section titled “Set it before you start handing out direct lines”Nothing stops you inviting people under Users while this says Not set — inviting a user and giving them a number are two separate steps, and only the second one reads this.
But it’s worth setting first anyway. With it set, buying a direct line for an agent opens on your own area code; with it unset the search box opens empty, which is how a Denver team ends up with a couple of Miami direct lines nobody notices until a customer calls one back.
